The study followed the relapsing-remitting patients being treated with any type of interferon beta for up to 7 years, with a median time of 4 1/2 year period. They tracked the patients every 6 monghs, measuring physical disability. Early treatment was defined as less than or up to one year from the onself of the disease. Treatment administered more than one year after onset was defined as delayed treatment.

Early treatment was found to significantly reduce the progression of the disease as compared to delayed treatment starts.
